It is a wide web reel to sheet cutting machine that works offline, separate from the press. A printed or plain reel is loaded on the auto unloading unwind on a 3 inch air shaft. An imported ultrasonic edge scanner web guide keeps the reel edge in position, and a tension controller with powder brake and ammeter holds the web tension steady from full reel to empty core.

The web is pulled by an electronic feeding control system with a 4 kW servo motor. Cutting is controlled either by length feed or by a print mark scanner, so pre-printed material is cut on the mark. An online side trimming unit with rotary blades removes the edges, and the sheet cutting unit, driven by a mechanical eccentric movement with hardened top and bottom blades, cuts the sheet. Finished sheets land on a collection table that steps down automatically based on the number of cuts. The minimum sheet length is 100 mm.

Cutting can be controlled by length feed or by a print mark scanner. On pre-printed reels the scanner reads the mark and the cut lands in the same place on every sheet.

An electronic web guide with an imported ultrasonic edge scanner corrects the web position as the reel unwinds, keeping the edges square through the trimmer and cutter.

Auto Unloading Unwind With Powder Brake Tension Control

The unwind takes reels up to 1350 mm diameter on a 3 inch air shaft and has an auto unloading unit. A tension controller with powder brake and ammeter keeps the web tension constant as the reel diameter drops.

Online Side Trimming With Rotary Blades

Edges are trimmed inline by rotary blades; 10 rotary blades and distance pieces are supplied, so the trim widths can be set for each job.

Hardened Blade Sheet Cutting Unit

The sheet cutting unit is driven by a mechanical eccentric movement through a mechanical motor mechanism, with hardened top and bottom blades for a clean, long lasting cut edge.

Auto Step-Down Collection Table

The collection table lowers itself automatically based on the number of cuts, so the sheet pile stays at the right height for neat stacking without an operator adjusting it.

The reel is loaded on the 3 inch air shaft of the unwind and threaded through the web guide, the tension control, the servo feed rollers, the side trimming unit and the cutting unit on to the collection table. The operator enters the sheet length on the controller, or selects print mark mode and positions the scanner over the printed mark, and sets the rotary trimming blades to the finished sheet width.

In running, the powder brake tension controller holds the web taut, the ultrasonic web guide keeps the edge in line and the 4 kW servo advances the web by one sheet length per cycle. The rotary blades trim both sides, the hardened blades cut the sheet with the eccentric movement and the sheet drops on to the collection table. As the count of cuts rises, the table steps down so the top of the pile stays level. In print mark mode, any drift in the printed repeat is corrected on every sheet because the scanner, not the length counter, triggers the cut.
