RK DS-60 Drum Slitter – Jumbo Roll Slitting Machine

The RK DS-60 is a roll to roll drum slitter machine. In a drum slitter, the rewinding rolls are driven by contact with a rotating drum rather than by turning the core shaft alone. As the slit web is wound, the growing roll rests against the drum, so the surface speed of the roll stays equal to the web speed regardless of roll diameter. That is what makes drum winding suitable for wide, heavy webs where shaft-driven winding would struggle to hold even tension across the width.

The DS-60 has a double winding shaft system, so alternate slit lanes are taken on two shafts and adjacent rolls do not touch. The 1500 mm paper width covers most jumbo rolls used in the label and paper converting trade in India, and the rotary blade slitting gives a clean edge that runs well on the press or slitter downstream.

The machine takes jumbo and stock lot rolls up to 1500 mm wide, so material bought at jumbo width is cut down in house rather than by a third party.

Drum Winding With Double Winding Shaft

The drum winding type rewinder keeps surface speed constant as the rolls build, and the double shaft system separates alternate lanes for clean roll edges. The rewinding unit is rated for 600 mm.

Rotary Blade Slitting

Rotary blades cut paper and label stock with a clean, straight edge at production speed, and an air blower carries the trim away from the winding rolls.

A web guide on the unwinding side keeps the wide web tracking straight into the blades, which matters more as the web gets wider.

Electronic Meter Counter With Auto Stop

The operator enters the required roll length and the machine stops automatically when it is reached, so every slit roll carries the same metres.

800 mm Unwinding Unit

The unwinding unit is rated for 800 mm, accepting the large-diameter jumbo rolls in which paper and label stock are supplied.

The jumbo roll is loaded on the 800 mm unwinding unit and the web is threaded through the web guide, which corrects sideways movement before the material reaches the slitting station. The operator sets the rotary blades at the widths required – for example several 320 mm lanes from a 1500 mm roll – and enters the target roll length on the electronic meter counter. Cores are fitted to the two winding shafts, with alternate lanes assigned to each.

When the 7.5 HP main motor starts, the web runs through the rotary blades at the set speed, up to 80 m/min, and the air blower removes the edge trim. Each slit lane winds on its core while resting against the drum, which drives the roll surface at web speed so tension stays even as the diameter grows. When the meter counter reaches the target, the machine stops. The finished rolls are removed from the double shaft system, new cores are fitted and the next set is run.
