Label Slitting Machine

Label Slitting Machine Manufacturer in India

A printed label roll rarely leaves the press in the size the customer wants. The press prints several labels across the web, and somebody has to cut that wide roll into narrow rolls, trim the waste, count the labels and rewind each roll on the right core. That is the job of a label slitting machine. Get it right and finished rolls go out clean and counted. Get it wrong and the press waits, rolls are rejected and the packing line downstream stops.

RK Label Printing Machinery Pvt. Ltd. manufactures label slitting and rewinding machines in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. The range on this page covers three machines built around a 320 mm paper width: the RK TR-320 Slitting With Turret Rewinding, the HS-320 Pro Slitting With Up and Down Rewinding, and the RK MS-320 Micro Slitting machine. All three take a printed roll up to 600 mm in diameter, slit it with rotary or shear blades, and rewind finished rolls on 1 inch, 1.5 inch or 3 inch cores.

This page explains what a label slitting machine does, how the three RK models differ, and how to pick the one that fits your label work.

01 — What Is It

What Is a Label Slitting Machine?

A label slitting machine, also called a slitter rewinder machine, takes a wide roll of printed labels and cuts it lengthwise into narrower rolls. The roll is loaded on an unwinding unit, the web passes a set of slitting blades, and the cut strips are wound onto separate cores on a rewinding unit. Along the way the machine trims off the waste edge, counts the labels or the metres, and stops automatically when the target is reached.

In a label plant the slitting machine sits after the printing press or die cutting machine. A flexo press prints a 320 mm wide web with several labels across it. The slitter separates those lanes so that each customer roll carries one lane of labels, wound in the direction their applicator needs.

RK builds its slitting machines for narrow web label work. The web is guided by an imported ultrasonic web guide, so the roll stays straight while it runs, and the tension on the unwind and rewind is controlled so the finished roll is neither loose nor crushed.

02 — Range

The RK Label Slitting Machine Range

01

Slitting With Turret Rewinding (RK TR-320)

The RK TR-320 is a roll to roll slitting and turret rewinding machine for 320 mm paper width. Its turret rewinding unit indexes with a stepper motor controller and turns the rewinding shaft automatically once the label or metre counter reaches the target, so the operator does not stop the machine to change rolls. Finished rolls go up to 250 mm in diameter. The unwind takes a 600 mm roll on a 3 inch air shaft, with an ultrasonic web guide, a splicing table with paper gripper for joining paper, and mechanical brake tension control. Slitting is by both rotary and normal shear blades with an air blower for waste trimming. A 7 inch Schneider touch screen and PLC run the machine, and the mechanical speed is 100 m/min. It suits printers who run many short rolls a day and want roll changes to happen without stopping.

Slitting With Up and Down Rewinding (HS-320 Pro)

The HS-320 Pro is RK's high speed label slitting and rewinding machine. It slits a 320 mm web at a mechanical speed of 200 m/min and rewinds on an up and down rewinding system that takes rolls up to 450 mm in diameter. The unwind holds a 600 mm roll on a 3 inch manual shaft with the imported ultrasonic web guide and mechanical brake tension control. It has both rotary and shear blade slitting, an air blower for waste trimming, a Panasonic label counting sensor, and a 1 HP variable speed motor for the nip roll and a 2 HP motor for the rewinding unit, each on its own Schneider frequency drive. Core size is selected on the touch screen. This is the machine for large finished rolls and long runs.

03

Micro Slitting (RK MS-320)

The RK MS-320 is a roll to roll micro label slitter in a 12 inch size, again for 320 mm paper width. It uses normal shear blade slitting with a grooved base roll, an up and down rewinding system with mechanical clutch tension control, and a single 1 HP variable speed motor on a Schneider frequency drive. A digital counter unit counts labels and metres and stops the machine automatically. The mechanical speed is 100 m/min, finished rolls go up to 300 mm in diameter and the machine runs on 1 HP single phase power, in a footprint of about 5 ft by 4 ft. It suits small label shops and in-house label rooms that need clean slitting without a large machine.

03 — Key Features

Key Features of RK Label Slitting Machines

Imported Ultrasonic Web Guide

Every model has an electronic web guide on the unwinding side, imported and ultrasonic based, so the printed web tracks straight through the blades.

Rotary and Shear Blade Slitting

The RK TR-320 and HS-320 Pro carry both rotary and normal shear blade slitting attachments, so the blade type can match the material. The MS-320 uses shear blades on a grooved base roll.

Automatic Label and Metre Counting

A Panasonic label counting sensor on the TR-320 and HS-320 Pro, and a digital counter on the MS-320, count labels and metres and stop the machine automatically at the set target.

Three Core Sizes on One Machine

All three models rewind on 1 inch, 1.5 inch or 3 inch cores. On the TR-320 and HS-320 Pro the core size is selected on the touch screen.

Turret Rewinding Without Stopping

On the TR-320 the turret indexes automatically once the counter reaches the target, and a pedal switch lets the operator index the turret and start or stop the machine.

Waste Trimming Collection

An air blower system on the TR-320 and HS-320 Pro collects the trimmed edge waste, keeping the machine and the floor clean.

Touch Screen and PLC Control

The TR-320 and HS-320 Pro are run from a full touch HMI screen and a Schneider electronic PLC system, so job settings are quick to set and repeat.

04 — How It Works

How Does a Label Slitting Machine Work?

1

The printed roll, up to 600 mm in diameter, is loaded on the unwinding shaft. The ultrasonic web guide senses the edge of the web and keeps it in line as it unwinds, while the mechanical brake holds the unwind tension steady.

2

The web passes through the slitting station, where rotary or shear blades set at the lane widths cut it into strips. The edge trim is drawn away by the air blower. The slit strips then run to the rewinding unit, where each strip winds on its own core, either on the up and down rewinding shafts of the HS-320 Pro and MS-320 or on the turret of the TR-320.

3

The label counting sensor counts every label and the metre counter measures the length. When the set count is reached the machine stops automatically, or on the TR-320 the turret indexes to the next shaft. The operator removes the finished rolls, loads new cores and starts the next set. Rewinding direction can be switched between forward and reverse to suit the label applicator.

05 — Applications

Applications

Self-adhesive label converting - slitting printed sticker rolls from a flexo press into customer rolls.
Pharmaceutical labels - counted rolls with automatic stop so every roll carries the set number of labels.
Food and beverage labels - fast turnaround of long runs on the HS-320 Pro.
Cosmetic and FMCG labels - many short rolls a day on the turret rewinding TR-320.
In-house label rooms - small batch slitting on the MS-320 micro slitter.
Barcode and blank label rolls - slitting plain label stock to the width the printer takes.
Rewinding direction changes - rolls rewound forward or reverse for different applicators.

06 — Materials

What Materials Can It Run?

The RK slitting machines are built for printed self-adhesive label stock and similar narrow web materials up to 320 mm wide, wound on rolls up to 600 mm in diameter. The HS-320 Pro uses a high speed chrome steel alloy blade for rapid, long-lasting cutting. For thin papers or unusual liners, share a sample with RK. RK runs a trial on the customer's own material before almost every order, so the blade type and tension setting are confirmed before the machine ships.
