04 — How It Works
On a flexo press, the printing cylinder carries the plate for the job and its circumference sets the repeat. The web is nipped and guided by rubber rolls at several points. The roll on the unwind is held at a steady tension by a powder brake, and on the rewind by a powder clutch.
After printing, the web reaches the rotary die cutting unit. There a flexible die on a magnetic cylinder, or a solid die, cuts the label shape as the cylinder turns, and the waste matrix is stripped away.
When the job changes, the shop changes the tooling: a new printing cylinder for a new repeat, a new flexible die or solid die for a new shape. When a part wears, the shop replaces it: a rubber roll that has hardened, or a powder brake that no longer holds tension. RK supplies both the tooling and the replacements.
