Jumbo / Stock Lot Slitting Machine

Jumbo Roll Slitting Machine Manufacturer in India

Label stock, sticker paper and similar materials are made in wide jumbo rolls, far wider than any label press can take. Before a converter can print, the jumbo roll has to be slit down to the press width. The same is true of stock lot rolls, the odd-width or leftover reels that are bought in bulk and need to be cut to a usable size. A jumbo roll slitting machine does this job, turning one wide reel into several narrower reels of the width the next machine needs.

RK Label Printing Machinery Pvt. Ltd. manufactures jumbo and stock lot slitting machines in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. The range on this page has two machines: the RK DS-60 Drum Slitter, which takes a 1500 mm wide roll and winds finished rolls on a drum winding system, and the RK DPS-40 Duplex Slitter, which takes a 1050 mm wide roll and winds on an up and down system. The DS-60 runs at 80 m/min and the DPS-40 at 100 m/min. Both have an electronic metre counter with auto stop, and both collect the trim with an air blower.

This page explains what these machines do, how the drum slitter and duplex slitter differ, and how to choose between them.

01 — What Is It

What Is a Jumbo Roll Slitting Machine?

A jumbo roll slitting machine is a roll to roll slitter built for wide, heavy parent reels. The jumbo roll is loaded on the unwinding unit, the web is guided straight, and a row of blades cuts it lengthwise into strips. Each strip is wound onto its own core on the rewinding unit, and the trimmed edge is removed by an air blower. A metre counter measures the length wound and stops the machine at the set figure.

The difference from a label slitter is scale. A label slitter handles a 320 mm printed web. A jumbo slitter handles a 1050 mm or 1500 mm parent reel, with an 800 mm unwind diameter on the DS-60 and 600 mm on the DPS-40, and needs a larger motor, a wider frame and heavier winding shafts.

Stock lot slitting is the same operation applied to leftover or odd-size reels. Converters buy such reels at a lower price and slit them to the sizes their presses and customers use.

02 — Range

The RK Jumbo Roll Slitting Machine Range

01

Drum Slitter (RK DS-60)

The RK DS-60 is a roll to roll drum slitter machine for a maximum paper width of 1500 mm. The unwinding unit takes an 800 mm roll and a web guide system keeps the reel in register. Slitting is by rotary blade, with an air blower for waste trimming. The rewinding unit is a drum winding type with a double winding shaft system, taking rolls up to 600 mm depending on the slitting width. A 7.5 HP three phase AC variable speed main motor drives the machine at 80 m/min. The machine is 14 ft long, 9 ft wide and 6 ft high. It suits converters and stock lot traders who handle the widest reels and need firm, even winding on the drum.

Duplex Slitter (RK DPS-40)

The RK DPS-40 is a roll to roll duplex slitter machine with a paper feeding size of 1050 mm. The unwind is on a 3 inch air shaft, takes a 600 mm roll and has an electronic web guide and an automatic tension controller with load cell and pneumatic brake. Slitting is by rotary and normal shear blades, 10 pieces, with an air blower for waste trimming. The rewinding unit is an up and down type on 3 inch air shafts taking rolls up to 600 mm depending on the slitting width, with the slit strips shared between the two shafts so that neighbouring strips wind apart from each other. A 7.5 HP three phase AC variable speed main motor runs the machine at 100 m/min. It is 7.5 ft long, 6.5 ft wide and 4 ft high, about half the length of the drum slitter. It suits plants slitting 1050 mm reels that want a compact machine.

03 — Key Features

Key Features of RK Jumbo Roll Slitting Machines

Wide Parent Reels

The DS-60 takes a 1500 mm wide reel from an 800 mm unwind diameter and the DPS-40 a 1050 mm reel from a 600 mm unwind diameter.

Web Guide on the Unwind

Both machines have a web guide system on the unwinding side so the wide reel runs straight into the blades.

Rotary or Normal Blade Slitting

The DS-60 slits with rotary blades and the DPS-40 with rotary and normal shear blades, each matched to the machine's width and winding style.

Drum or Duplex Rewinding

The DS-60 winds on a drum with a double winding shaft system. The DPS-40 winds on an up and down duplex system. Both take finished rolls up to 600 mm, depending on the slitting width.

Electronic Metre Counter With Auto Stop

Both models count the metres wound and stop automatically at the set length, so every finished roll carries the same length.

Air Blower Waste Trimming

The edge trim on both machines is drawn away by an air blower, keeping the winding area clear.

Variable Speed AC Drive

A 7.5 HP three phase AC variable speed main motor on both machines lets the operator match the speed to the material, up to 80 m/min on the DS-60 and 100 m/min on the DPS-40.

04 — How It Works

How Does a Jumbo Roll Slitting Machine Work?

1

The jumbo or stock lot reel, up to 800 mm in diameter on the DS-60 and 600 mm on the DPS-40, is loaded on the unwinding unit. On the DPS-40 the unwind is a 3 inch air shaft. The web guide senses the edge of the reel and keeps the web tracking straight as it feeds forward.

2

The web passes the slitting station, where the blades, rotary on the DS-60, rotary and normal shear on the DPS-40, are set at the required widths and cut the web into strips. The trimmed edge is drawn away by the air blower.

3

The strips then wind on the rewinding unit. On the DS-60 the strips wind on the drum winding system with its double winding shafts. On the DPS-40 they are split between the upper and lower shafts of the duplex system. The electronic metre counter measures the length and stops the machine at the target. The operator unloads the finished 600 mm rolls, fits fresh cores and starts the next set.

05 — Applications

Applications

Slitting jumbo rolls of label stock - bringing 1500 mm or 1050 mm parent reels down to press width.
Stock lot converting - cutting leftover or odd-width reels to sizes that sell.
Sticker paper suppliers - preparing reels for label printers in the widths they order.
Paper reel slitting - narrow reels for smaller printing and converting machines.
Feeding narrow web presses - keeping a flexo or tower press supplied with correctly slit reels.
Metre-counted reels - every finished reel wound to the same set length with auto stop.

06 — Materials

What Materials Can It Run?

These machines slit adhesive jumbo rolls and paper reels into ready-to-print label stock. The DS-60 handles reels up to 800 mm in diameter and 1500 mm wide. The DPS-40 handles reels up to 600 mm in diameter and 1050 mm wide. If you slit film, laminates or unusual substrates, share a sample with RK. The company runs a trial on the customer's own material before almost every order and confirms the blade and winding setup for it.
