Offline Roll to Sheet Cutting Machine

Roll to Sheet Cutting Machine Manufacturer in India

Many printed jobs are produced in rolls but delivered as sheets. A label roll may need to become sheets of labels for hand application. A printed paper reel may need to become cut sheets at an exact length. A foam roll may need to be laminated and cut into pads. In every case the cut has to land in the same place on every sheet, and the sheets have to stack neatly.

RK Label Printing Machinery Pvt. Ltd. manufactures offline roll to sheet cutting machines in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. The machines take a roll on the unwind, feed it a set length with a servo motor, read the print mark with a scanner so the cut stays in register, and cut the sheet with a hardened top and bottom blade or a pneumatic cutter. RK has built label printing and converting machinery since 1995.

The three machines on this page are the Offline Roll to Sheet Cutting Machine 1300mm, the Offline Roll to Sheet Cutting Machine 320mm and the Foam Roll to Sheet Cutting Machine.

01 — What Is It

What Is a Roll to Sheet Cutting Machine?

A roll to sheet cutting machine, also called a reel to sheet cutting machine or a sheeter, converts material from a roll into flat sheets of a set length. It is called offline because it works as a separate machine after printing, so one sheeter can serve several presses.

The roll is mounted on the unwind unit, where a web guide keeps it running straight and a tension controller keeps it steady. A servo motor feeds the web forward by the set length. If the material is printed, a print mark scanner reads the mark and corrects the feed so the cut falls at the same point on every sheet. The cutting unit then cuts the sheet, and the sheets are collected on a table or conveyor.

For a buyer the main questions are the roll width, the minimum and maximum sheet length, the material and the number of sheets per shift. RK's range covers 320 mm and 1300 mm paper widths, and a 1200 mm foam machine that laminates before cutting.

02 — Range

The RK Roll to Sheet Cutting Machine Range

01

Offline Roll to Sheet Cutting Machine 1300mm

The 1300 mm machine is the wide format sheeter for large printed reels. It takes a maximum roll width of 1300 mm on an auto unloading unit of up to 1350 mm diameter with a 3 inch air shaft. The unwind has an imported ultrasonic edge scanner web guide and a tension controller with powder brake and amp meter. A 4 kW servo motor feeds the web, with cutting control by length feed and a print mark scanner. An online side trimming unit with 10 rotary blades is provided. The cutting unit uses a mechanical eccentric movement with hardened top and bottom blades, the minimum cut is 100 mm, and the collection table steps down automatically by the number of cuts. The machine measures 4.6 ft high, 7.6 ft wide and 16 ft long.

It suits printers and converters cutting wide paper, board or printed reels into sheets.

Offline Roll to Sheet Cutting Machine 320mm

The 320 mm machine is the narrow web sheeter for label and paper rolls. It takes a maximum roll width of 320 mm on an auto unloading unit up to 600 mm diameter with a 3 inch air shaft, an imported ultrasonic edge scanner web guide and a powder brake tension control. A servo motor feeds the web, with cutting control by length feed and a print mark scanner, and a digital electronic controller counts cut sets, sheet sets and total strokes. The minimum cut is 30 mm and the machine runs above 150 strokes per minute, depending on the cut length. It cuts self adhesive paper and other paper up to 200 GSM, has an online slitting attachment with blower, and delivers sheets on a conveyor. It measures 5 ft high, 3.5 ft wide and 9 ft long.

It suits label printers who deliver labels as sheets and converters cutting narrow paper rolls.

Foam Roll to Sheet Cutting Machine

The Foam Roll to Sheet Cutting Machine is built for foam. It has two unwinds: a foam unwind up to 1000 mm diameter and a base release unwind up to 250 mm diameter, both on 3 inch manual shafts with mechanical brake tension. A sandwich type roller system pastes the foam and the base release together, a rotary blade attachment with bottom support slits the web with 4 blades, and a servo based nip roll control from Schneider feeds the web. Cutting length is set by servo feed from 6 inches to 40 inches, the sheet is cut by a rodless pneumatic cylinder, and a touch screen HMI with PLC runs the machine. Maximum paper width is 1200 mm, the rewinding unit takes rolls up to 1000 mm diameter, and the machine measures 5 ft high, 8 ft wide and 16 ft long.

It suits foam converters who laminate foam to a release liner and cut it into sheets.

03 — Key Features

Key Features of RK Roll to Sheet Cutting Machines

Print mark scanner for cut register

The 320 mm and 1300 mm machines cut on the print mark, so every sheet is cut at the same point of the print.

Servo feed for length accuracy

A servo motor feeds the web the set length on all three machines. On the 1300 mm machine the servo is 4 kW. Cutting accuracy depends on the print mark scanner and the servo feed.

Imported ultrasonic web guide

The 320 mm and 1300 mm machines keep the web straight with an imported ultrasonic edge scanner web guide on the unwind.

Hardened blades with mechanical eccentric cutting

The paper machines cut with hardened top and bottom blades driven by a mechanical eccentric movement. The foam machine cuts with a rodless pneumatic cylinder.

Counters and auto stop

The 320 mm and foam machines have a digital electronic controller for cut set, sheet set and total stroke counting.

Online slitting and trimming

The 320 mm machine has an online slitting attachment with blower, the 1300 mm machine an online side trimming unit with 10 rotary blades, and the foam machine a 4 blade rotary slitting attachment.

Sheet collection

The 1300 mm machine has a collection table that steps down by the number of cuts, and the 320 mm machine delivers sheets on a conveyor.

04 — How It Works

How Does a Roll to Sheet Cutting Machine Work?

1

The roll is loaded on the unwind unit. On the paper machines an auto unloading unit holds the roll, the ultrasonic web guide keeps the edge in line, and the powder brake keeps the tension steady. On the foam machine the foam roll and the base release roll are loaded on two unwinds with mechanical brakes, and the sandwich roller system pastes them together as they pass.

2

The servo motor then pulls the web forward by the set length. Where the material is printed, the print mark scanner reads each mark and corrects the pull so the cut stays in register. If slitting or side trimming is needed, the rotary blades cut the web to width before the sheet cut.

3

The cutting unit cuts the sheet. On the 320 mm and 1300 mm machines this is a hardened top and bottom blade driven by a mechanical eccentric movement; on the foam machine it is a rodless pneumatic cylinder. The finished sheets land on the collection table, which steps down as the stack grows on the 1300 mm machine, or on the conveyor of the 320 mm machine. The counter records cut sets, sheet sets and total strokes.

05 — Applications

Applications

Label sheets - cutting self adhesive label rolls into sheets for hand application.
Printed paper sheets - cutting printed reels to length on the print mark.
Wide format sheeting - converting 1300 mm reels into sheets for printers and packaging converters.
Foam pads and sheets - laminating foam to a release liner and cutting it into sheets from 6 inches to 40 inches.
Slit and sheeted work - slitting or trimming the web to width before sheeting on the same machine.
Offline finishing - one sheeter serving several presses or slitters in the plant.

06 — Materials

What Materials Can It Run?

The 320 mm machine cuts self adhesive paper and other paper up to 200 GSM. The 1300 mm machine handles paper reels up to 1300 mm wide. The Foam Roll to Sheet Cutting Machine runs foam with a base release liner, up to 1200 mm wide. For any other material, thickness or GSM, confirm with RK before the machine is specified. RK runs a trial on the customer's own material before almost every order.

07 — Selection Guide

How to Choose the Right Roll to Sheet Cutting Machine
