POS / Thermal Paper Slitting & Rewinding Machine

POS Roll Slitting Machine Manufacturer in India

Every shop, petrol pump, bank ATM and restaurant that prints a receipt uses a small thermal paper roll. Those rolls do not arrive that way from the paper mill. They come as large jumbo reels, and a POS roll slitting machine cuts each reel into narrow rolls of the right width and length, ready to drop into a billing printer.

RK Label Printing Machinery Pvt. Ltd. manufactures POS roll slitting machines at its head office in GIDC Vatva, Ahmedabad, Gujarat. The RK TS-500 series takes a jumbo reel up to 1000 mm in diameter and 500 mm wide, slits it with rotary blades and rewinds finished rolls on 13 mm, 19 mm and 25.4 mm shafts at a mechanical speed of 165 m/min.

This page covers the three machines in the range: the plain RK TS-500 POS Roll Slitting Machine, the RK TS-500 with one colour flexo printing, and the RK TS-500 POS Roll Slitting Machine With Two Colour Printing. Each is a thermal paper slitting rewinding machine built for the same job, with a different level of printing on the roll.

01 — What Is It

What Is a POS Roll Slitting Machine?

A POS roll slitting machine is a roll to roll converting machine. It unwinds a wide jumbo reel of thermal paper, cuts it lengthwise into several narrow webs with rotary blades, and rewinds each narrow web onto a small core. The result is the familiar billing roll, ATM roll or cash register roll.

Because thermal paper prints with heat rather than ink, the paper must not be scratched, creased or over-stretched on the way through the machine. A good thermal paper slitting machine therefore controls tension on the unwind, trims the edges cleanly and winds each roll evenly so that the receipt printer feeds without jams.

Many buyers also want a printed message on the back or front of the roll, such as a shop name, a promotional line or a logo. RK builds the same slitting platform with an inline flexo printing unit for that reason, so the roll is printed and slit in one pass instead of two.

RK TS-500 POS Roll Slitting Machine With One Colour Printing

The RK TS-500 with one printing unit is a roll to roll thermal slitter rewinder with a one colour flexo printing unit and a hot air dryer. The printing unit has an individual motorised anilox roll, no need to set printing pressure for every job, and a quick change printing cylinder for fast job changes. It handles a maximum paper width of 500 mm, runs at 165 m/min, and rewinds on manual shafts for 13 mm, 19 mm and 25.4 mm cores, three of each. This model suits converters who supply printed billing rolls to retail chains, petrol pumps and restaurants.

RK TS-500 POS Roll Slitting Machine

The plain RK TS-500 is the same roll to roll thermal slitter rewinder without a printing unit. It takes thermal paper up to 100 GSM, a jumbo reel up to 1000 mm in diameter on a 3 inch air shaft with pneumatic loading, and slits it with a 10 set top and bottom rotary blade cutting system. Waste trim is collected by an air blower, an automatic ink marking system marks the end of each roll, and a meter counter stops the machine at the set length. A Schneider PLC controls the machine and a Schneider VFD drives the 2 HP main motor. This is the machine for converters who produce plain POS rolls in volume.

RK TS-500 POS Roll Slitting Machine With Two Colour Printing

The RK TS-500 POS Roll Slitting Machine With Two Colour Printing is the same TS-500 slitting line with two colour flexo printing, a hot air dryer and individually motorised anilox rolls, for rolls that carry a logo plus a second colour message. It takes the same 500 mm wide, 1000 mm diameter jumbo reels, runs at 165 m/min and is published for thermal paper up to 80 GSM. It prints two colours on one side, or one colour on the front and one on the back. It measures 7 ft in height, 6 ft in width and 13 ft in length. 03 — Key Features

Key Features of RK POS Roll Slitting Machines

500 mm Paper Width and 1000 mm Jumbo Reels

The RK TS-500 unwinds a reel up to 1000 mm in diameter and 500 mm wide on a 3 inch air shaft, so a full jumbo reel from the paper supplier goes straight on the machine.

Pneumatic Reel Loading

An air pneumatic loading system lifts the heavy reel into position, which saves operator effort and reduces the chance of damaging the reel edge.

Rotary Blade Cutting With 10 Sets

A top and bottom rotary blade system with 10 sets gives clean, dust free edges on thermal paper.

Ink Marking and Meter Counter

An automatic ink marking system with an ink rubber roll marks the end of each roll, and a meter counter with auto stop cuts every roll to the same length.

Three Core Sizes on the Rewind

Manual rewinding shafts for 13 mm, 19 mm and 25.4 mm cores, three of each, cover the common billing roll, ATM roll and cash register roll sizes. Rewind rolls go up to 200 mm in diameter.

Optional One or Two Colour Flexo Printing

The same platform is offered with a one colour flexo printing unit with hot air dryer, or as a two colour thermal slitter, so printed POS rolls come off the machine in one pass.

PLC Control and VFD Drive

The machine is controlled by a Schneider electronic PLC system, and the 2 HP three phase main motor runs on a Schneider variable frequency drive for smooth speed control up to 165 m/min.

04 — How It Works

How Does a POS Roll Slitting Machine Work?

1

The operator loads the jumbo thermal paper reel on the unwinding unit using the pneumatic loading system. A drum type mechanical brake holds the reel under tension so the web stays flat as it enters the machine.

2

On the printing models, the web first passes through the flexo printing unit, where the anilox roll meters ink onto the printing cylinder and the message is printed on the paper. The hot air dryer sets the ink before the web reaches the cutters. On the plain RK TS-500 this step is skipped.

3

The web then enters the rotary blade cutting system, where 10 sets of top and bottom cutters slit it into narrow webs at the widths set for the job. The air blower carries away the edge trim. Each narrow web winds onto a core on the manual rewinding shaft. When the meter counter reaches the set length, the ink marker marks the roll and the machine stops automatically. The operator removes the finished rolls, fits fresh cores and starts the next set.

05 — Applications

Applications

Billing rolls - thermal paper rolls for shop and supermarket POS printers.
ATM rolls - narrow receipt rolls for bank ATMs and kiosks.
Cash register rolls - rolls for restaurants, petrol pumps and small retailers.
Printed POS rolls - rolls with a shop name, offer or logo printed inline in one or two colours.
Thermal paper converting - converting jumbo reels into standard widths for resale.

06 — Materials

What Materials Can It Run?

The RK TS-500 and the one colour model are published for thermal paper up to 100 GSM, and the two colour machine up to 80 GSM, with a maximum paper width of 500 mm. Rewind cores of 13 mm, 19 mm and 25.4 mm are supported as standard. If you plan to run a different paper grade or weight, send RK a sample. RK runs a trial on the customer's own material before almost every order, so you can see the slit edge and the rewound roll before you decide.
