Shrink Sleeve Machine

Shrink Sleeve Machine Manufacturer in India

A shrink sleeve label wraps the whole bottle or container in print. To get from a printed roll of PVC shrink film to a stack of sleeves ready for the applicator, the film has to be folded into a tube, seamed along the overlap, and then cut to length on the print mark. Those two steps are done by two machines: a glueing machine and a cutting machine.

RK Label Printing Machinery Pvt. Ltd. manufactures both in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. The RK PSG 650 PVC Shrink Sleeve Glueing Machine seams the film at up to 120 metres a minute on widths up to 650 mm. The RK PSC 320 PVC Shrink Sleeve Cutting Machine cuts the seamed sleeve web at 15,000 to 18,000 strokes an hour on widths up to 320 mm. RK has built label printing and converting machinery since 1995.

The two machines on this page are the PVC Shrink Sleeve Glueing Machine RK PSG 650 and the PVC Shrink Sleeve Cutting Machine RK PSC 320.

01 — What Is It

What Is a Shrink Sleeve Machine?

A shrink sleeve is a printed sleeve of PVC or other shrink film that slides over a bottle, can or jar and shrinks tight in a heat tunnel. Because the print covers the whole container, shrink sleeves for bottles are popular for beverages, cosmetics, food and pharmaceutical packaging.

A shrink sleeve machine is the converting equipment that turns printed shrink film into finished sleeves. The glueing machine, also called a seaming machine, folds the flat film into a tube and seals the overlap with adhesive, producing a continuous flattened sleeve on a roll. The cutting machine takes that sleeve roll and cuts it into individual sleeves at the exact length of the label, using the print mark to keep every cut in the right place.

For a buyer, the glueing machine is chosen by film width and speed, and the cutting machine by film width and strokes per hour. RK's pair covers 650 mm and 120 m/min for seaming and 320 mm and 15,000 to 18,000 strokes per hour for cutting.

02 — Range

The RK Shrink Sleeve Machine Range

01

PVC Shrink Sleeve Glueing Machine RK PSG 650

The RK PSG 650 takes a printed roll of PVC shrink film, folds it into a tube, runs a line of adhesive down the overlap and seals the seam. What comes off the rewind is a continuous flattened sleeve, ready for the cutting machine and then the shrink tunnel. Film width goes to 650 mm and the machine runs at up to 120 metres a minute.

A peristaltic pump driven by a stepper motor dispenses the adhesive, so the flow rate tracks line speed anywhere from 1 to 120 m/min. Change the speed and the dose changes with it. The fluid touches nothing but the inside of a replaceable rubber tube. The unwind holds a roll up to 600 mm diameter on a 3 inch multi bladder air shaft, with an imported ultrasonic edge scanner web guide and a powder brake with load cell feedback. The rewind takes rolls up to 700 mm diameter on a cantilever air shaft with an independent torque motor, and a 1 HP three phase motor with variable frequency drive runs the machine.

It suits label printers and packaging converters who produce shrink sleeve labels from printed film.

PVC Shrink Sleeve Cutting Machine RK PSC 320

The RK PSC 320 takes the seamed sleeve web off the glueing machine and cuts it to length, sleeve by sleeve, on the print mark. Finished sleeves land on a motorised conveyor and come off the end in a neat stack, ready to be counted, boxed or fed straight to an applicator. It cuts 15,000 to 18,000 strokes an hour on film widths up to 320 mm, depending on the sleeve size.

Length accuracy comes from two things working together. A servo motor pulls the web a set distance for every stroke, and a Panasonic print mark scanner reads the register mark and corrects the pull before the blade comes down. The unwind holds rolls up to 700 mm diameter on a 3 inch multi bladder cantilever air shaft, with an imported ultrasonic edge scanner web guide and a mechanical brake. The cutting unit works on a mechanical eccentric movement, and the conveyor is driven by a 0.5 HP AC geared motor with variable frequency drive.

It suits converters who supply cut sleeves to bottlers and brand owners, and plants that feed sleeves to their own applicator.

03 — Key Features

Key Features of RK Shrink Sleeve Machines

Adhesive dose that follows line speed

On the PSG 650 a peristaltic pump on a stepper motor dispenses adhesive, so the flow rate tracks the line speed from 1 to 120 m/min and the seam gets the same dose at any speed.

Clean adhesive path

The adhesive touches only the inside of a replaceable rubber tube in the peristaltic pump, which keeps the pump clean and easy to service.

Imported ultrasonic web guides

Both machines guide the film with an imported electronic ultrasonic edge scanner on the unwind, so clear and printed film stays in line.

Tension control on the seaming machine

The PSG 650 has a powder brake with load cell feedback on the unwind and an independent torque motor on the rewind, so the sleeve roll is wound at a steady tension.

Servo feed with print mark scanner

The PSC 320 pulls the web with a servo motor and corrects each cut with a Panasonic print mark scanner, so sleeve length stays on the register mark.

Conveyor stacking

Cut sleeves are collected on a motorised conveyor with variable frequency drive, so they come off the machine in a neat stack.

650 mm seaming and 320 mm cutting

The glueing machine handles film up to 650 mm wide, and the cutting machine up to 320 mm, on rolls of 600 mm and 700 mm diameter.

04 — How It Works

How Does a Shrink Sleeve Machine Work?

1

Seaming comes first. The printed roll of PVC shrink film is loaded on the unwind of the RK PSG 650, where the ultrasonic edge scanner keeps it centred and the powder brake with load cell feedback holds the tension. The film is folded into a tube, the peristaltic pump lays a line of adhesive along the overlap, and the seam is sealed. The flattened sleeve is rewound on the cantilever shaft under the torque motor, up to 700 mm diameter.

2

Cutting comes next. The sleeve roll goes on the unwind of the RK PSC 320. The servo motor pulls the web a set distance for every stroke, the Panasonic print mark scanner reads the register mark and corrects the pull, and the blade on the mechanical eccentric movement cuts the sleeve. Each cut sleeve drops on the motorised conveyor and stacks at the end.

3

The finished sleeves then go to the applicator and the shrink tunnel, where heat shrinks each sleeve tight to the container. Both RK machines are set up by the operator for the film width and sleeve length of the job, and the speed is adjusted on the variable frequency drives.

05 — Applications

Applications

Shrink sleeves for bottles - beverage, water, juice and dairy bottles with full body print.
Cosmetic and personal care packaging - sleeves for tubes, jars and shaped containers.
