Flatbed Die Cutting

4542-S Flatbed Series Servo Die Cutting and Hot Stamping Machine

4542-S Flatbed Series Servo Die Cutting and Hot Stamping Machine

01 — Overview

Servo Flatbed Die Cutting Machine Manufacturer in India

A flat die presses straight down on the web, so it cuts thick stock, films and fine detail that a rotary die handles badly. The cost of a flatbed press has always been speed and set-up time. The RK 4542-S Flatbed Series is built to bring both down.

It is a servo flatbed die cutting machine for roll to roll work, ready for hot stamping. Servo motors drive the main press and the web pull. A Panasonic eye reads the print mark. The 650 mm unwind and rewind keep long runs going. It cuts at up to 450 strokes a minute over a 430 x 420 mm die area, with die cut accuracy of plus or minus 0.1 mm. RK Label Printing Machinery Pvt. Ltd. designs and manufactures it in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India.

The series comes in two forms: a double head machine, which hot stamps and die cuts in one pass, and a single head machine for die cutting alone. This page explains both, what they include and how to choose between them.

03 — What Is It

What Is a Servo Flatbed Die Cutting Machine?

A servo flatbed die cutting machine cuts labels, tags and packaging parts from a roll using a flat die. The web stops for a moment, the flat platen presses the die down and cuts, and the web moves forward by the repeat length. A servo motor controls how far the web moves, so the feed is exact on every stroke.

On a self-adhesive label, the die cuts through the face stock and adhesive but not through the liner. The waste matrix is stripped and rewound, and the finished labels stay on the liner. On other materials the die can cut right through.

A flat die is quick and low cost to make for any shape. That makes flatbed cutting the usual choice for short and medium runs, for labels with sharp corners and fine detail, and for materials that are too thick or too stiff for a rotary die.

04 — Key Features

Key Features of the RK 4542-S Flatbed Series

Servo Main Drive and Servo Web Pull

Servo motors drive the main press and pull the web. The web advances the same distance on every stroke, which keeps the cut position steady across the whole roll and allows high stroke rates without losing accuracy.

Up to 450 Strokes a Minute

The single head machine runs up to 450 strokes a minute and the double head machine up to 400, both at up to 70 m/min web speed. This is a high rate for a flatbed press and keeps long runs of labels moving.

430 x 420 mm Die Cut Area

The large die cut area takes big labels, multi-up layouts and packaging parts. Both machines take paper up to 450 mm wide.

Die Cut Accuracy of Plus or Minus 0.1 mm

Cut position is held to plus or minus 0.1 mm. Printed labels with tight borders and small gaps are cut cleanly.

Print Mark Eye for Printed Rolls

A Panasonic eye reads the print mark on pre-printed rolls, so the die cut follows the artwork. Rolls printed on another press can be passed through the 4542-S and cut in register.

Touch Screen Motion Control

The machine is set and monitored from a touch screen. Job settings are entered on screen, not set by hand on the machine.

650 mm Unwind and Rewind

Unwind and rewind take rolls up to 650 mm diameter, so long runs continue with fewer roll changes.

Hot Stamping Ready

The double head machine has two stations: hot stamping and die cutting in one pass. Foil and a die cut shape are put on the label together, in register, without moving the roll to a second machine.

05 — Models

Double Head and Single Head: Which One?

4542-450 Double Head

Two stations: hot stamping and die cutting. It runs up to 400 strokes a minute at up to 70 m/min. Main power is 17 kW. Choose it when labels need hot foil as well as die cutting, such as cosmetic, wine and spirit, and other premium labels.

4542-450 Single Head

One station for die cutting. It runs up to 450 strokes a minute at up to 70 m/min. Main power is 10 kW. Choose it when the work is die cutting alone, where the higher stroke rate and lower power use matter.

06 — How It Works

How Does the 4542-S Work?

The reel is loaded on the unwind. The web enters the machine and is pulled forward by the servo web pull.

On the double head machine, the first station hot stamps: heated plate and foil press onto the web. The second station die cuts with the flat die. On the single head machine the web goes straight to the die cutting station. The Panasonic eye reads the print mark on printed rolls and the servo corrects the feed so every stamp and cut lands on the printed label.

The waste matrix is rewound online. Finished labels leave on the liner for rewinding, or pass to a conveyor or sheet cutter if these options are fitted.

In sequence, the line can cover:

  • Unwinding
  • Hot stamping (double head)
  • Flatbed die cutting
  • Lamination (optional)
  • Slitting (optional)
  • Flexo unit (optional)
  • Sheet cutting or conveyor (optional)
  • Rewinding

07 — Applications

Applications of the 4542-S Flatbed Series

Cosmetic and Premium Labels

Hot foil and a crisp die cut in one pass give a premium finish without a second machine.

Wine, Spirits and Beverage Labels

Foil logos on label paper, cut to shape in register with the print.

Pharma and Healthcare Labels

Clean cuts, tight accuracy and print mark registration suit pharma labels.

Barcode, Industrial and Logistics Labels

Thick and tough materials cut cleanly with a flat die.

Hang Tags, Cards and Board

Thick stock cuts cleanly on a flat platen. Board in roll form can be die cut roll to roll.

Films and Specialty Materials

Synthetic films and specialty stocks cut cleanly with a suitable die.

08 — Materials

What Materials Can the 4542-S Cut?

  • Self-adhesive paper and film labels
  • Thick board and tag stock in roll form
  • Plain and printed rolls
  • Films
  • Specialty stocks

Material suitability depends on thickness, hardness and the die. RK runs a trial on your own material before almost every order.

09 — Optional Units

Understanding the Optional Units

Hot Stamping
Presses foil onto the label with a heated plate. Fitted as a station on the double head machine.
Lamination
Applies a protective film to the printed web before cutting.
Slitting
Splits the finished web into narrower rolls on the line.
Flexo Unit
Adds a printing station so printing and cutting happen in one pass.
Sheet Cutter
Cuts finished labels into sheets and stacks them.
Conveyor
Carries finished pieces away from the die.

Add only what your jobs need. Each unit adds machine length and cost.
