Foil Stamping & Embossing Machine

Hot Foil Stamping Machine Manufacturer in India

A gold logo on a liquor label, a silver border on a cosmetic box, a raised pattern on a wedding card. Those finishes are made by a hot foil stamping machine, which presses a heated die and a roll of foil onto the material, and by an embossing machine, which presses a raised design into it. Together they turn an ordinary printed label into a premium one.

RK Label Printing Machinery Pvt. Ltd. manufactures hot foil stamping and embossing machines at its head office in GIDC Vatva, Ahmedabad, Gujarat. The range on this page has three machines: the RK-HSD 3030 Double Head Stamping Machine with label die cutting, the RK 2530-E Heavy Duty Stamping & Embossing Machine, and the Roll to Roll Strip Stamping Machine.

Each machine is built for a different job. The first two are flatbed machines that stamp and die cut label rolls up to 320 mm wide, and the RK 2530-E also embosses. The third is a compact roll to roll heater roll machine for 12 inch strip stamping. This page explains what each does and how to pick the right one.

01 — What Is It

What Is a Hot Foil Stamping Machine?

A hot foil stamping machine transfers a thin layer of metallic or coloured foil onto paper, board or film. A heated metal die carrying the design presses the foil against the material. Where the die touches, the foil's coating releases and bonds to the surface. Where it does not, the foil stays on the carrier and rewinds as waste.

An embossing machine works with pressure rather than foil. A pair of matched dies squeezes the material so the design stands up from the surface. When stamping and embossing are done together, the foil design is also raised, which is the finish seen on premium labels and packaging.

In label production these steps are usually followed by die cutting, which cuts the label shape from the web and strips the waste matrix. RK's flatbed machines combine stamping, embossing and die cutting on one machine, so a roll of printed labels goes in and finished, foiled, die cut labels come out.

02 — Range

The RK Hot Foil Stamping and Embossing Machine Range

01

Double Head Stamping Machine

The RK-HSD 3030 is a high speed stamping and label die cutting machine with two heads. It takes a maximum paper width of 320 mm, an auto unwinding unit with a 3 inch air shaft and a 600 mm reel, and an imported ultrasonic electronic web guide. The stamping unit area is 300 mm by 300 mm with a cross foil saving facility on across winding by a Schneider servo. The die cutting unit is 300 mm wide with a 400 mm repeat length, with paper pulling by a Schneider servo motor. A re-pass scanner system handles printed label die cutting, a full touch 7 inch Schneider HMI runs the machine, and an online waste matrix rewinder, online sheet cutting unit and auto rewinding unit complete the line. Speed is 5000 to 7000 strokes per hour. This machine suits label converters who foil and die cut printed rolls in volume.

Stamping & Embossing Machine

The RK 2530-E Heavy Duty is a stamping plus stamping/embossing plus die cutting machine for a maximum paper width of 300 mm. It has two stamping units of 300 mm by 250 mm, a four colour stamping area of 300 mm by 125 mm, and a two colour stamping and embossing option. Cross foil feeding and paper feeding are both driven by electronic stepper motor systems, and the die cut area is 300 mm by 300 mm. It includes an auto unloading unit, auto rewinding unit, motorised waste rewinding and an auto sheet cutting unit. The 5 HP three phase AC variable speed main motor gives up to 5000 strokes per hour, the machine weighs about 3000 kg, and it measures 4.5 ft high, 6 ft wide and 14.5 ft long. It suits printers who want foil and embossed finishes on the same label.

Roll to Roll Strip Stamping Machine

The Roll to Roll Strip Stamping Machine is a 12 inch roll to roll stamping machine that uses a heater roll for stamping instead of a flat die. It has electronic web control, a meter counter, a temperature controller unit, a two roll disc unwinding attachment and an up and down rewinding system, driven by a 1 HP AC variable speed motor on three phase power. At 3.6 ft high, 4.8 ft wide and 5.6 ft long it is the compact machine of the range, for continuous foil strips and bands on narrow rolls.

03 — Key Features

Key Features of RK Hot Foil Stamping Machines

Stamping, Embossing and Die Cutting on One Machine

The RK-HSD 3030 combines stamping with label die cutting, and the RK 2530-E adds a stamping and embossing option and die cutting, so one machine finishes the label.

Servo and Stepper Controlled Foil and Paper Feeding

The RK-HSD 3030 uses Schneider servos for the cross foil saving facility and paper pulling. The RK 2530-E uses electronic stepper motors for cross foil feeding and paper feeding. Both control foil use and register.

Re-Pass Scanner for Printed Labels

On the RK-HSD 3030 a re-pass scanner system with sliding assembly registers the die to labels that were printed on another machine.

Touch Screen Control

The RK-HSD 3030 runs on a full touch 7 inch Schneider HMI with separate modules for plain and printed label die cutting. The RK 2530-E has fully digital electronic control with a production counter and auto stop.

Inline Waste Rewinding and Sheet Cutting

Both flatbed machines rewind the waste matrix online and include a sheet cutting unit, so labels can be delivered as rolls or sheets.

Heater Roll Stamping for Strips

The Roll to Roll Strip Stamping Machine stamps with a heated roll and a temperature controller, which suits continuous strips and borders on 12 inch rolls.

Heavy Duty Build

The RK 2530-E Heavy Duty weighs about 3000 kg and runs a 5 HP three phase main motor, built for continuous production shifts.

04 — How It Works

How Does a Hot Foil Stamping Machine Work?

1

On the flatbed machines, the printed label roll is loaded on the auto unwinding unit. On the RK-HSD 3030 the ultrasonic web guide keeps the web centred, and the servo paper pulling unit feeds it forward one repeat at a time. The stamping unit heats the die, the foil is fed across the web, and the head presses die and foil onto the label. The cross foil saving facility moves the foil only as far as the design needs, which cuts foil waste.

2

On the RK 2530-E, the second stamping unit can carry embossing dies, so the same stroke that applies the foil also raises the design. The four colour stamping area allows different foils in one pass.

3

After stamping, the web moves to the die cutting unit, where a flat die cuts the label shape. The waste matrix is stripped and rewound online. The finished labels either rewind on the auto rewinding unit as a roll, or pass through the sheet cutting unit and are delivered as sheets. The production counter records the strokes and stops the machine at the target.

4

On the Roll to Roll Strip Stamping Machine the process is continuous. The web runs from the two roll disc unwind through the heated stamping roll, where the foil is applied along the strip, and rewinds on the up and down rewinding system. The meter counter tracks the length.

05 — Applications

Applications

Premium product labels - gold and silver foil logos on liquor, cosmetic, tea and confectionery labels.
Embossed labels - raised brand names and patterns combined with foil.
Pharma and security labels - foil marks and holographic effects on labels that need a distinctive finish.
Printed label finishing - stamping and die cutting rolls printed on a flexo or screen press.
Sheet delivery - foiled and die cut labels delivered as sheets using the online sheet cutting unit.
Foil strips and bands - continuous foil borders and strips on 12 inch rolls with the roll to roll machine.

06 — Materials

What Materials Can It Run?

The flatbed machines are published for paper widths up to 320 mm on the RK-HSD 3030 and 300 mm on the RK 2530-E, running self-adhesive label rolls from a 600 mm maximum reel. The Roll to Roll Strip Stamping Machine handles 12 inch wide rolls. Foil, board and film choices affect heat and pressure settings, so send RK samples of your label stock and foil. RK runs a trial on the customer's own material before almost every order.
