Gift Wrap Ribbon Slitting Machine

The gift wrap ribbon slitter is built to order, and its specifications are fixed against the customer's requirement. To configure and quote it, RK needs:

• Jumbo roll width, diameter and core size
• Finished reel widths and the number of widths you produce
• Reel length in metres and the core size the reels are wound on

It is a slitting and rewinding machine for decorative ribbon. The jumbo roll is mounted on an unwind, the ribbon web is guided through a slitting section where blades divide it into strips of the required width, and each strip is wound onto a core on the rewind shaft. A counter measures the length so every reel carries the same metres, and the machine stops when the set length is reached so the operator can doff the finished reels and load fresh cores.

Ribbon differs from label stock in that it is thin, often slippery and easily stretched or creased, and the finished reel is a retail product that must look neat. The machine is therefore set up for gentle web tension, clean blade cutting and even, edge-aligned rewinding, so the reels come off ready for packing.

All the finished widths across the jumbo are slit at the same time and wound on individual cores, so one operator turns one jumbo into a full set of retail reels in a single run.

Clean, Even Cutting of Ribbon

The slitting section is set up for the ribbon material – satin, polypropylene curling ribbon, metallic or printed film – so the cut edges are straight and free of fraying or stretch marks.

Neat, Tight Rewinding on Cores

Each strip is rewound with controlled tension and edge alignment, giving firm, even reels with flat sides, which is what a retail ribbon reel has to look like.

Length Counter With Auto Stop

A counter measures the ribbon and stops the machine at the set length, so every reel in a batch carries the same metres.

Adjustable Widths

Blades and rewind positions are reset for different finished widths, so one machine produces the 5, 10, 25 and 50 mm reels a ribbon range needs.

Built to Your Jumbo and Reel Sizes

RK configures the unwind, slitting section and rewind for the customer's jumbo width and diameter, core size and reel length, rather than supplying a fixed model.

The jumbo roll is loaded on the unwind shaft and the ribbon web is threaded through the guide rollers and the slitting section, with the blades set at the required widths. Cores are placed on the rewind shaft in line with the blades, and the leading ends of the strips are attached to the cores. The operator sets the reel length on the counter and starts the machine.

As the machine runs, the unwind feeds the web at a light, steady tension, the blades divide it into strips and the rewind draws the strips onto their cores. Guiding keeps the web straight so each strip winds with flat, aligned edges. When the counter reaches the set length the machine stops, the operator cuts the strips, removes the finished reels and loads fresh cores, and the next batch begins. Changing width is a matter of resetting the blades and rewind positions.

• Ribbon types: list all the materials you slit; thin curling ribbon and heavier satin need different tension and blade settings.
• Jumbo size: confirm the width, diameter and core of your jumbo rolls so the unwind is sized for them.

• Reel length and core: the counter, rewind shaft and core chucks are specified for your reel length and core size.
• Output: tell RK how many reels per shift you need so the machine width and speed suit your production.
