Batch Coding Machine

Batch Coding Machine – Roll to Roll Batch Coding Rewinding Machine

01 — Overview

Batch Coding Machine Manufacturer in India

Most packaged products sold in India carry a batch number, manufacturing date, expiry date and MRP. When those details are printed on a label, the label converter has two choices: print the variable data on the press, which means stopping the press for every batch, or code the finished label rolls on a separate coding machine while the press keeps running. Most converters and packers choose the second route.

RK's roll to roll batch coding rewinding machine is built for that job. It unwinds a printed label roll, carries the web across a flat 500 mm space where the batch coding attachment prints the variable data, and rewinds the coded roll at constant speed. It takes a paper width of 300 mm, unwind and rewind rolls of up to 500 mm diameter, and is driven by a 1 HP DC variable speed motor. RK Label Printing Machinery Pvt. Ltd. manufactures it in Ahmedabad, Gujarat.

This page describes what the machine does, what it includes, how it works with your coding unit and how to decide whether a roll to roll batch coding machine is the right way to handle MRP and batch details in your plant.

03 — What Is It

What Is the RK Batch Coding Machine?

The RK Batch Coding Machine is a roll to roll rewinding machine with a dedicated space for a batch coding attachment. It is not the coder itself; it is the handling machine that moves the label web past the coder in a controlled way. The coder, either a CIJ (continuous inkjet) or a TIJ (thermal inkjet), sits on the flat 500 mm bed and prints the batch, date and MRP on each label as the web passes. RK can supply and fit the batch coding unit, or the customer can fit their own.

The unwinding unit accepts a printed roll of up to 500 mm diameter and has a web control unit that keeps the web running straight. The rewinding unit also takes up to 500 mm and has a nip roller attachment so that the winding speed stays constant as the roll builds up. The result is a coded roll that can go straight to the customer's labelling line.

04 — Key Features

Key Features of the RK Batch Coding Machine

Flat 500 mm Space for the Coding Attachment

The web runs flat over a 500 mm length between the unwind and the rewind. That flat, supported section is where the batch coding attachment is mounted, and it gives the coder a stable, level surface to print on.

300 mm Paper Width

The machine handles label webs up to 300 mm wide, which covers the common narrow web label roll widths used for pharma, food and FMCG labels.

Unwinding Unit With Web Control

The unwinding unit takes a roll of up to 500 mm diameter and includes a web control unit, so the labels stay in line as the roll unwinds and the code lands in the same position on every label.

Nip Roller for Constant Speed Winding

A nip roller attachment on the winding side keeps the web moving at a steady speed even as the rewind diameter grows. Constant speed matters for coding, because it keeps the printed characters even and in place.

500 mm Rewinding Capacity

The finished coded roll can be wound up to 500 mm diameter, matching the unwind capacity so a full roll can be coded end to end without splitting it.

Variable Speed DC Drive

A 1 HP DC variable speed control motor lets the operator set the web speed to suit the coding head, whether a CIJ or a TIJ coder.

05 — How It Works

How Does the Batch Coding Machine Work?

The operator loads the printed label roll on the unwinding unit, threads the web across the flat coding bed and through the nip roller to the rewind core. The batch coding attachment is positioned over the flat section and set to the label pitch, so that the batch number, dates and MRP print in the intended area of each label. The web control unit on the unwind is adjusted so the web edge stays fixed.

When the machine runs, the DC variable speed drive moves the web at the speed chosen for the coder. Each label passes under the coding head, receives its code and travels on to the rewinding unit, where the nip roller keeps the pull constant while the roll builds. At the end of the roll the operator removes the coded roll, loads the next roll and, if the batch has changed, updates the code on the attachment. The press upstream never has to stop for a batch change.

06 — Applications

Applications of the RK Batch Coding Machine

  • Pharmaceutical labels – batch number, manufacturing date and expiry date on medicine and syrup labels.
  • Food and beverage labels – packing date, best before date and MRP on packaged food labels.
  • Cosmetics and personal care – batch and MRP coding on cosmetic product labels.
  • Pouch and sachet labels – variable data on labels that go on pouches and small packs.
  • Label converters – offering coded, ready to apply rolls as a value added service to brand owners.
  • In-house packing lines – coding label rolls per batch before they go to the labelling machine.

07 — Materials

What Materials Can It Handle?

The machine is designed for printed self-adhesive label rolls up to 300 mm wide, in paper and similar label stocks that run on narrow web label presses. Whether a given film label can be coded depends more on the coding head and ink than on the rewinder, so tell RK what label material and what type of coder you use and the team will confirm the combination.

09 — Why RK

Why Choose RK Label Machines?

RK Label Printing Machinery Pvt. Ltd. has manufactured label printing and converting machinery in Ahmedabad, Gujarat since 1995. With three manufacturing units and customers in 23+ countries, RK builds the presses that print the labels, the slitters and inspection machines that finish them and the auxiliary machines, like this batch coding rewinder, that sit at the end of the line. Buying the coding machine from the same manufacturer as the press means the web widths, core sizes and roll diameters already match.

10 — Selection Guide

How to Select the Right Batch Coding Machine

  • Label web width: the RK machine takes up to 300 mm. Check your widest label roll.
  • Roll diameter: unwind and rewind both accept 500 mm. Larger rolls should be discussed with RK.
  • Type of coder: a CIJ or a TIJ coder can be mounted on the flat 500 mm space, but the web speed you need depends on the head. Tell RK which coder you plan to use.
  • Batch change frequency: if batches change many times a day, coding offline on this machine keeps the press printing instead of stopping it.
  • Label position accuracy: the web control unit and constant speed nip roller are what keep the code in place on the label. Share your label pitch and code position with RK.
  • Power available: the machine runs on a 1 HP DC variable speed motor.

11 — Price

Batch Coding Machine Price in India

The price of the RK roll to roll batch coding rewinding machine depends on the configuration you need, including any change to web width, roll diameters and the type of coding attachment to be fitted. RK quotes ex-works Ahmedabad with GST at 18% applicable. Engineer travel and stay for installation and training at your site are borne by the customer. Share your label sizes, roll sizes and coder details with RK and the team will recommend the right build and quote for it.

13 — FAQ

It unwinds a printed label roll, passes the web over a flat 500 mm bed where a batch coding attachment prints the batch number, dates and MRP, and rewinds the coded roll at constant speed.

The machine provides the flat 500 mm space and the web handling for a batch coding attachment. RK can supply and fit the batch coding unit, or the customer can fit their own. Tell RK which coder you intend to use so it can be matched to the machine.

Up to 300 mm.

The unwinding unit takes up to 500 mm diameter and the winding unit up to 500 mm diameter.

The unwinding unit has a web control unit that holds the web edge steady, and the nip roller attachment on the rewind keeps the web speed constant as the roll builds.

A 1 HP DC variable speed control motor, so the web speed can be set to suit the coding head.

Yes. MRP, batch number, manufacturing date and expiry date are all printed by the coding attachment as the label web passes over the coding bed.

Coding on a separate machine means the press does not stop for each batch change. Printed rolls are stocked and coded batch by batch as orders come in.

It codes any self-adhesive label roll within the 300 mm width, whatever the label is later applied to, including pouches and bottles.
